Our team of caregivers and compassionate professionals realized that many former professional athletes  (I.E. Hockey, Soccer, NBA & NFL players) had experienced Traumatic Brain Injury, head traumas and/or concussions during their careers.  Many gifted players were forced to retire early due to injuries on and off the field. We also learned that a lot of these guys are still uninformed about what to expect as their minds and bodies age. Typically, they are not taught about after-care by their former employers.
Celebrated players who supported families and extended relationships while in the pros, may find they can no longer hold jobs, compounding their frustrations, loss of hope and feelings of isolation. Many former players have since been diagnosed with Cognitive Issues.  TBI Dementia, headaches, extreme mood swings, and bouts of crippling depression. 

Too often,  they have been left alone to figure out why their lives, relationships and lives are in a little more difficult for them to do "normal" things.

Tragically, these still proud athletes sometimes become lost to those who love them most due to substance abuse or violence -- violence against those same loved ones, or themselves. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

        Many programs are available to assist these former athletes depending on how long they played and how they were released. It is vitally important that we spread the word among the players, their families and other professionals.
